Be Your Own Boss!!!!   J-O-B VS Self-Employment by Kathy Clark             Do you know what we say J-O-B stands for?  Journey of the Broke or Just Over Broke.  Because your Boss is only going to pay you just enough to keep you from quitting, but never enough to do all the things you dream of.             I have had JOBs and I have been Self-Employed.  Self-Employment in my opinion is so much better.  But we are so conditioned to believe that is what we are supposed to do.  Mom and Dad said get a college education so you can get a good job.  Only there are no good jobs.   Not if you love freedom.               Freedom to earn what you are truly worth.  Freedom to set your own hours.  Freedom to take a vacation when you want one and for as long as you want.  Freedom to do something you truly love.              I know there is a lot of fear attached to being self-employed.  We have grown accustom to a check on the 15th and the 30th, and benefits.  This is the hook that keeps us tied to the JOB.              If we are in debt, which most Americans are, then we feel the need to be assured we have a certain amount coming in every month.  But are we assured.  They can lay you off at any moment and they will.              It does take guts to bite the bullet and go for the dream of owning and operating your own business.  To take the lid off your income.  Yes you will have to learn some new things, get some advice, do research, and do some planning.  In other words, count the costs.  But it is worth it.              Your family is worth it and you are worth it. Yes, you deserve to drive the better car and live in the better neighborhood.  You deserve to have your children attend the better schools.               There are so many books, tapes, seminars, websites, and forums out there helping us be successful entrepreneurs.  Turn off the TV.  Take a look at some of these and change your life.  Live up to your potential.  You can do it.              Finding Mentors is important.  You should have at least one, but probably you will need more than one. This site is designed to mentor you and help you along the way.             Jim and I have owned and operated several businesses.  We have done some things right and some things not so right.  We have learned many things the hard way. OUR PERSONAL STORY   The Short Version (click here to read the full version)             Hello there, I am Kathy Clark and this is just a little about Jim and me.              I was raised in Alaska and lived there 30 years, from 1957-1987. This was during some of the pioneer days.              Jim and I met in 1973; he was a Real Estate Broker and owned a company called Selective Realty.              Jim was born and raised in Alabama.  He spent 23 years in the Air Force.  When he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant, he was only 44.  He had a Bachelors Degree in Business and now was running a successful Real Estate Company.              The Air Force had taken him many places, such as Korea, Japan, California and Alaska.  When he got to Alaska he found a place he loved.              I got my Real Estate License and started helping Jim run the business.  At one time we had four offices and 40 agents. What a nightmare. Then we boiled it back down to one office.            We bought a franchise and called it Century 21 Selective Realty, Inc. Those were some fun days.             After I met Jim, we read a book called "The Magic of Thinking Big" and decided to make a million dollars in one year. We were successful and did it.  At least on paper.             We were now worth One Million Dollars in net worth, but it wasn't very liquid and we were struggling. We had a lot of fun, but we weren't very smart about some things. No one had ever taught me how to handle money.             We were acquiring properties and selling properties, but didn't have a clue about saving money.  We used all the creative ways to buy real estate, such as, no money down, equity sharing, wrap-around mortgages, and lease options.  We even subdivided property and built subdivisions.             It all worked fine for many years as Alaska was growing and booming.  Real Estate prices were going straight up, and then the market came to a screeching halt in the 80's.             We owed 20% more on all our properties than any of them would sell for and you couldn't rent them. We had no savings to speak of and sold things for pennies on the dollar.  We closed the Real Estate Office and retired.             I was ready after 30 years of Alaska and many heart-breaking disappointments to leave and just go start over.             That is how we got to Alabama.  Jim was born and raised in Alabama. His family has lived here for many years.              Jim got his Real Estate Brokers license and worked for different companies here, but it is so different in Alabama. We hated the way Real Estate is handled in this area.             I got my license and sold two houses and decided I was through with real estate. I thought I wanted to go back into big business and have a real JOB and a steady paycheck and benefits. After working for Boeing for 2 years, I realized that is a huge mistake. I had been self-employed for too long.             I quit. I knew I would rather starve to death than work there.  This is when I discovered a company that was willing to train me and teach me about handling money. I would be self-employed, but under their banner.  A company within a company.  I could grow at my own pace, and since this was a subject I needed to learn, I went for it.             After a couple years, Jim finally quit the Real Estate business and joined me. We always liked working together in our own business, and now we are working together again.  Taking our business to new and varied directions. One of which is this website.           Yes, we still buy and sell Real Estate, but we do it for ourselves and at our own pace. Now we will build a  new fortune and know how to handle it.             This is the special information and education that we want to share with our readers. With all we have experienced, we have much to share. We can tell you what not to do, where the pitfalls are and we can tell you what to do.             We want to earn a lot of money, gain wealth, but take a lot of people along on the journey. My goal is to help others become Financially Independent as we travel together. If this sounds like an exciting journey, then come on along. Let's go.
